Peridot, one of the olivine stones, is a brilliant green stone. It is one of the few gemstones that forms in only color. It does, however, come in a range of shades from deep olive to golden greenish yellow. It is a traditional birthstone of August. Olivine stones fine enough to be used as peridot are very rare.
